We’re a husband and wife team who met in 2008 and have been married for 12 years. We have two boys and are based in Birmingham, UK.
Costs to Expect was born out of a social experiment which began when we were expecting our first son. We’d seen the research which claimed that it costs £250k to raise a child from birth to 18 years of age. Dean set out to disprove this by building an app to track the costs of raising our boys. We’d always tracked our household budget and even our wedding budget on an Excel spreadsheet, but the developer in Dean wanted something a little more sophisticated! Hence, the development of Budget Pro which expanded the Costs to Expect service!.
When asked what he’d like to include here, Dean’s response was: “I’m a developer who likes to build things!!” To be fair, that just about sums Dean up!
Dean taught himself to code as a teenager and has been at it ever since. With over 25 years of experience, Dean has built up a varied CV but is never happier than when building apps from scratch. As well as developing the Costs to Expect Apps, he is currently working on his own 2D C++ Game Engine – just for fun!
Dean works full-time as a Senior Developer for a multinational company. He is currently studying for a Mathematics Degree with the Open University and is a keen Ultra Runner! Life is never boring!
Aideen is a graduate of Oxford Brookes University and started her career in the charitable sector, managing projects which supported disabled and disadvantaged people into employment. After marrying Dean and settling in Birmingham, Aideen used her experience of having Cerebral Palsy to become a self-employed Disability Trainer and Speaker.
Aideen’s role as Project Manager involves continuously testing Budget Pro to ensure the best experience for our users. Whenever a new feature is added, it’s always tested before being released to our users. Aideen is also responsible for all content on the App and managing our Social Media.
Aideen also works for Birmingham City University as an Expert by Experience, supporting the learning of Social Work Students. All on top of being Mummy to Jack and Niall!
